Orientation DMS: Zine Project Draft

Description
Working into this project, the outlines create parameters of using an object we have lived with for a longer period of time and to personify it using two different workshops. After beginning the draft of my zine, I believe I have come up with a look and concept I am excited to carry out. The object I have chosen to focus my zine around , I knew needed to be something prominent in my life. With this I decided to use my iPhone. Using my iPhone, I wanted to write and depict my personal experience with technological addiction and how it can affect personal image. I have a lot of ideas that I can use with visuals and how I should layout my zine, but, we must also use two different workshops.
Potential Process
There are at least three I can use with my concept, screen printing, book binding, and photography. With photography, I received a free Nokia cellphone randomly, and with this I was thinking to destroy it with a hammer and take pictures on the 3D table available. In both screen printing and book binding, it is pretty self explanatory. Screen printing for some of the visuals in the zine, and book binding for the physical zine.
Research
For specific content, I want to include pictures taken with my phone (maybe of myself where my phone is visible) and texts containing personal experiences with my phone and how it affects/affected me. I also did research on coding for cellphones and found lots of examples that can be used for visuals too, I think it suits the aesthetic I am aiming for. The coding used from iPhones is from a program called ‘Swift’ and is the very stereotypical look for what coding is. I took inspiration from a few album covers for the blue monochromatic look I wish to use. From these two albums in particular, I can also draw connections to the emotion I am aiming for with this zine. Both of these artists (seen below), I would consider strong sound artists, with lush soundscapes and concept in their work. In listening to these artists on my own, I feel a certain longing and loneliness, isolation, that can be seen within the concept of technological addiction.
Reflection
One thing I think I am going to have to step outside of my comfort zone for this assignment is the messiness of it. Our instructor emphasized how home made this needed to look, I, being a perfectionist, am going to have a hard time making it fit those requirements.
