Duvet Construction
Over the last week, I have finally begun constructing my sampler duvet. I spent (and probably wasted) a lot of time debating this project’s physical computing side; experimenting with methods that might or might not work pertaining to the technical details. Not to say that those aspects aren’t vital to the project, but I just exhausted myself with new information that is entirely outside the scope of my previous and current work. Throughout this project as well, I realized that coding and physical computing are not my preferred mediums of work. Obviously, these are crafts that require lots of practice and technical honing which I only have a rudimentary perception of, but I just have a hard time maintaining an understanding of what exactly I am doing within Ardiuno and throughout the wiring process. I had initially expected to have to struggle a bit with this side of the project, which is why I left such a large chunk of time on my schedule to figure it out, but now, I have begun to actually construct the duvet. I spent most of last week hand-sewing literally every part of this duvet (I don’t own a sewing machine) which was very time-consuming. In the second photo you can see a close-up of the inside of the panels and their conductive thread (which is also sewn into the edge of the panels for easy attach and detachment), down the line I will probably conjure a better method to weave the conductive thread throughout the inside rather than just having it loose throughout but, for now, this works. For now I have downsized a bit, only doing four panels instead of twelve, but in the method I chose to design the duvet, I can easily add more panels whenever I wish. There are a couple more details in the design I with to tweak, small embellishments to cover up some of the stitching, etc. My next steps are to fully start testing it out, which will lead me to the decision of which method of computing I want to follow. At the moment I am between the Sparkfun wavTrigger, which I have had a harder time with but is objectively better for it is polyphonic, or the BareConductive TouchBoard which is much easier to function but less within my vision.
