CTS: collections Video Essay Production

Process

Working through our project, we are mostly on schedule. In the past two weeks, we have had four separate shoots devoted to this video. First two being in the 3D workspace for specific close shots of the food and the consumption. (seen in figure 1) The next two were location shoots where we first went to Oxford Circus to show the “higher-end” of what capitalism shows, capturing this to emphasize the inequality. In the final shoot, we traveled to Tottenham Hale, a much quieter, emptier area to show the other end of what capitalism might present. Through all of this, I handled the sound work, using an H4N microphone and boom, collecting sounds from the various areas that I could potentially use while Jazelle did the camera work.

At this moment we have most aspects of the video collected, just not stitched together yet. What I have to do next is put together the sound in its first draft. Renting out the H4N for more time, I need to collect sounds from the food we shot shown in our 3D worktable shoot while Jazelle edits the footage collected. When I receive a draft of the video, I will have my opportunity to fully construct the sound design.

Taking inspiration from the drug scene from ‘Requiem for a Dream’ I aim to do the sound design similar to this. Below (figure 2) shows a rough cut of what we did 3D table workspace, not a final piece obviously but a glimpse for our vision.
