CTS: Collections Video Essay PrePRoduction

CTS presented us with a new project brief that I am quite excited for. Similar to the first collections project, we will be collecting information on a topic of choice and putting it into a video essay with our group. The ‘video essay’ must be 3-5 minutes long and include text/narration and various visuals.

Process

After being shown many different examples, my group (Jazelle & Mickey), spit out a couple different ideas and landed on the rough idea of the collection of capitalism. Essentially, it is based off of the fact that capitalism is collection. This is still a very rough concept, but visually we have vast opportunities. For example, big name corporations like Sainsbury feed the idea a capitalistic society, this can be used as a location for our film. Or using images of food that are often affiliated with money, bread, bacon, green, etc. For this, I also intend to create a sound to accompany the film. I have some ideas but it is easier most of the time to create sound once the video is shot. My group and I created a schedule for when we need to have our work done by: outline by November 5th, script and storyboard by November 7th, shoot until November 10th, edit until November 18th, finalize by the 19th, and finally turn in on the 20th. Between now and the start of our work, we are going to look into the kit rooms for equipment and studio space for specific shots we might use.
