Orientation DMS – Conversations draft 1 & zine project

Coming into class, our groups (Sunny, Lynn, and I) had our conversations project from last week edited and finished.

Description

But before we did our final presentations, a new assignment was briefed to us, which I am actually very excited for. We will be making a zine based off of an object that we have lived with for a significant amount of time. In the zine, it must contain images, pieces of text, etc. all somehow relating to the object of our choice. In the brief we were given many examples of zines to look at & taking reference from (seen in featured picture). The zines provided as examples ranged from punk rock, football, cooking, to feminism zines, all with a distinct looks and execution.

Class Reflection

Once our instructor finished the briefing, we moved back to the presentation of our group projects. Most of my contribution to the project laid in the presentation side, so I made sure I was fully prepared. Yesterday our group met up after class to make sure we had our finished project and a firm understanding on our process behind it, all of which I used for our presentation. The process of finishing this was fairly simple, we came together to transcribe and storyboard the recording we took from our location. We came up with the idea together, and Lynn brought it to life with her illustrations.

During the presentations it was helpful being the final group (and quite entertaining) to see their different perspectives on what to do with the guidelines given. A few groups did a short film, one did a collage, and the other did a gif-type piece. Once we finished our presentation, our instructor had nothing but good things to say, and we were dismissed right after. With this new project assigned, I have many ideas running through my head that I am excited to work with.
